One always assumes (or at least, hopes) that one's doctors are up to speed on the latest and greatest discoveries in their field.
What some do not realize is that this information does not magically appear in these hard-working doctors' heads.
It has to be crammed in. Sometimes, using sheer force.
When you are still an intern, it is even worse, because even the tried-and-true methods of treatment and techniques and random bits of information are still rattling about in your head without any firm points of reference to tie them down.
This would be why Cristina Yang, surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, completely fails to notice she didn't just walk into the cafeteria as she balances four medical journals, a medical terminology textbook, two anatomy books and a small handbook on suture techniques, all while keeping a hold of her half-filled coffee cup.
