It has been a nice, quiet week for him. Aphelise comes down the stairs into the bar room with a slight smile on his face, intending to get a drink before going for a walk outside.
The first part of the plan is completed without a hitch, but as he goes past the window (not the Window) he sees the autumn rain falling outside. Stopping and resting a hand on the window sill, Aphelise looks out.
A diamond like a shard of ice finds its way into the tiny space left where the wooden frame meets the window pane, disappearing from view.
He sighs. The rain shows no sign of stopping. So much for that. The single malt scotch would be more enjoyable inside the bar, anyway.
Aphelise gets a book from the bar and settles to read on the couch.
