When Nick Carraway opened the door to the "closet" he found, he expected to see clothes and the like.
Instead, he found a bar.
A big bar, bustling with people.
Milliways.
So there he stands, staring blankly in the doorway. It takes him a few moments, but he eventually decides to step inside and investigate his discovery. He closes the door gently behind him, and has absolutely no idea that he's closing the door on everything familiar to him.
