Kevin is at a table, going over some experiment results.
Kevin does not know about snakes inna bar yet.
He'd welcome company.

Funny how things work out, isn't it? The
snake
slithering under his table might think so, if it was capable of considering irony at the moment.

...there's something on his foot. There's something slithering on his foot.
He goes very, very still. Also pale.

There's also a hissing sound! The snake tests the air.

Yeeeeah, so not moving a muscle, except to turn his head to look for his brother. Or anyone else who might rescue him.

Thing is, when something goes still that was moving, snakes notice. The snake holds very still as well. Agitated copperheads always freeze before striking.

Kevin leans down very carefully to look under the table.

The snake is brown, with dark splotches and black. Very pretty snake!
Too bad he does not appreciate such things.
The snake doesn't seem to appreciate him either. It hisses again, and vibrates its tail like a rattlesnake. A warning.

Aw, crap.
He starts very, very slowly trying to pull his feet back out of range.

The snake snaps its head forward in a threat strike, snagging one of its fangs in a leg of Kevin's pants.

Kevin screams and tries to yank his leg back.

Pulling back again, the snake delivers a second strike, giving Kevin a shallow bite.
It couldn't hold on and deliver much venom, so the copperhead hitches back and waits for another chance, still hissing furiously.

He swears under his breath, pulling his leg up to examine the bite.
Unfortunately, his other leg is still well within reach.

The snake winds itself around the table leg and makes another feint at him.

He kicks out at it, terrified and not thinking.

Lucky shot. While he isn't exactly an expert, Kevin's shoe catches the snake on the underside of its jaw, neatly snapping its neck.
It spasms once or twice before falling limp on the floor.

Kevin sags, taking a breath of relief (but still shaking), then proceeds to examine his leg.
