Two weeks, now, since classes started at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff. So far, Bran Davies has successfully convinced his landlord and landlady that he's, in Mrs Thomas's words, "a very nice young man, properly brought up and all." Bran's classmates are still wary. The albino first-year who doesn't drink at parties, who can be unaccountably prickly when asked personal questions, and who hasn't even tried to shed his North Welsh accent confuses the rest of his class. A few of the new students, especially the girls, find Bran intriguing; Bran isn't quite sure what he thinks of them yet, though.
Bran is walking alone through Bute Park when he hears the high strange music. He raises his head in sudden surprise and joy. Bran pulls open a door that doesn't exist and steps back into Milliways.
