There's a chill in the air--more than a chill, an outright nip--but Jack has Georgia bundled up warm and snug and taken her for a walk around the lake. Upon occasion she insists on getting down from his arms and attempting a step or two on her own, but she's not quite mastered the art of staying upright yet.

There's one here, just out of her reach as she walks in, who didn't crawl at all. Just upped and walked.

And that's what she's doing, even as she bends down and scoops her niecedaughterGeorgia into her arms and blows a big raspberry on her outstretched hands before simply kissing Jack's cheek and sitting down next to him.

"Long time no see, sweety."

"Hello, darling," says Jack, beaming, and Georgia giggles and claps her hands. MamaAuntie!

Sheila's nose gets clapped, but she doesn't mind. It's a large enough nose.

"You look..."

She turns to appraise him.

"Am I allowed to use the word nummy?"

"If you wish," he says, preening. "Though I suspect I'll be laying down this body for a season when the year turns."

She draws Georgia close, whispering words that saplings use.

"You're sleeping this year?"

"Quite possibly," he says quietly. "I'm . . . going to do what the earth tells me to do. Be a tree, be Herne, be . . . we'll see."

She raises an eyebrow.

"You know you can ask me. You've got a family again..."

Georgia squirms at the tense tone of Sheila's voice, batting at her cheek.

"Hey, squirt, it's okay. It's fine."

But she looks at Jack, and just kind of... rolls her eyes.

"It's not asking too much. The break was kind of nice. I think I got to see Thomas more when I had more bark than bite."

"I think I need to, love," he says gently. "It's my stewardship. My responsibility. I have before when I had family.

"And you should come visit us in Vegas. Thomas is there a great deal. Getting very tan."

La la la not a hint la la.

Subtle as ten tonnes of bricks.

"Maybe. I suppose, I can't get laid in New York, so what's the difference between not getting laid in my home or not getting laid on holiday?"

She's very glib about the whole thing. It's like... losing her superpowers or something.

"We should take you to see Zumanity," Jack non-sequitors.

Or not. Hard to tell with that divine brain.

She Eyes him.

"I wouldn't get laid there, either."

Forgive her. It's been a while.

"Well, no," he admits. "But there's lots of pretty to look at."

He's not being smug. Is he? Because being married and passionately in love is nothing to be smug about.

"Fmeh."

She bounces Georgia on her knee, suddenly glad that while her niecedaughterGeorgia is smart, she's not quite up to understanding "I wouldn't get laid there, either."

Her face heats up a little.

"Oh, I don't know. I wasn't made to fall in love, I think. It throws me all out of whack, fo' shizzle, top o' t' mizzle."

He shrugs. "Love is different for us," is his astute summation.

"Glad you're capable of feeling sorry for me," she says, and sticks her tongue out at him.
