That should be a shock in and of itself, but he's struck by the lines of the book. Characters going off to die for a noble cause.

Humanity is complex. He should have guessed this.

However he's trying his best to make sense of T.S. Elliot.

There's a cop of The Lord of the Rings too. But he hasn't picked that one up

He hasn't seen the young man in the corner with the laptop for some time... but he should recognise him for all that.

John Preston doesn't recognize him. Hell, he doesn't see him.

He's a little absorbed in trying to figure out some of the prose.

A chance glance upward makes him blink ,"....Mr...Universe?"

He looks up at the sound of his name, and brightens.

"Preston! How are you doing on this fine day?"

Preston's smile is a little less bright. Just a little, "-Ah-Um-Well, I'm-" He gestures at the book, "...Trying to make sense of this."
