Iris hasn't been in the bar for a couple of weeks. That should be changed.

Therefore, Iris is sitting at one of the tables, occasionally marking pages in a book she has in front of her, occasionally writing things down in a notebook.

She's also singing along softly with the music that's playing through the earphones perched over her ears.

He doesn't know the song, himself, but the tune is easy enough to follow. He leans his elbows on the back of Iris' chair, listening. Soon, though, it's a warm tenor voice behind her that joins in, humming the melody with her quiet singing.

Unless he was a uber-fan of the 1980s phenomena known as Rainbow Brite, and had the "Paint a Rainbow in Your Heart" tape, no, he probably wouldn't be familiar with it.

Iris, on the other hand, was one. Still is, in fact. She smiles slightly as she registers his humming, but doesn't turn around.

"A rainbow feeling
It's good as gold, when it takes hold
A rainbow is more than it seems
It's happiness, wonder, excitement, and dreams."

"Mmmm..." Her head drops forward. It feels reeeeally good. Especially when you carry the weight of wings on your back.

The song changes, and she continues to sing along, although not as softly.

"Take a pinch of red
A dash of blue
We'll color you a rainbow

Add a yellow flower
And a violet hue
I'll color you a rainbow..."

"People's hearts are not rainbow," Mary comments, helpfully.

"They are all red and gloppy. There were pictures in my book."

Iris smiles at Mary. "Ah, but rainbows are magic, isn't that what you told me? So a rainbow could be there."

"They are -"

Mary's brow furrows; she puts a hand on her heart, as if she's going to feel the rainbow where it's beating.

"But you would see it in the pictures if it was. There would not be much point if it was invisible."

"Did you see the absolute inside of the heart?"

Iris continues to hum the song.
