Parker's out by the bank of the lake, unlit cigarette hanging from his lips. Resting his elbows on his bent knees, he looks relaxed.

He's always up for company.

"Hello."

Jack flops down next to him, unceremoniously.

"Are those not supposed to have fire on one end?"

"'m quitting," Parker says, in explanation.

He shrugs, and glances over at Jack, curious.

"Then give it to me."

He holds out a hand for it.

"We will throw it in the lake and talk instead. I do not like the taste of them."

Grinning, Parker hands it over, easily. He fingers a small stone and rubs it in his palm.

"I've heard nicotine gum is more effective than eating them."

Snorting, Parker takes it out of his mouth.

"Cold turkey," he says instead.

Guppy nods.

"So... the eating part is a form of torture?"

"Yep, figure that if I torture myself the withdrawal will feel like nothing."

Mal can move pretty silently when she wants to.

From directly behind him, "I hear that lighting it helps somewhat with the experience."

"Quitting," Parker says.

"Now, why'd you go and do a thing like that?"

She sits half-next to him, half-behind him.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure," Parker says. "What's up?"

She's late - which is really rather relative in places like this, but perhaps the sun is already gone when she flops herself nearby. Her cheeks are flushed beneath the freckles and her hair is a wild, tangled mess.

Her voice is bright for all its quietness.

"Hello, Parker."

Parker grins, tossing the cigarette off into the darkness.

"Hey, Lethe," he says.

She props her chin on her palms and lets her legs swing idly behind her.

"What are you outside for?"

She's usually out for sunshine - or for stars.

Parker shrugs, "Bar got too tight today."
