Owls - Gil's world used owls for messages. And as he had to send a message to Gil's world to tell Strahan and Rabastan the bar was safe to come back to, Asar-Suti needed an owl.

Obvious way to get an owl would be to catch one, would it?

Cut for complicated owl-shaped mayhem )

And so he did, in their room which was drying out slowly.

There stood the faun unpacking as busily as he had packed a few days before.

As the god entered he sniffed and grinned and said, "You smell of mouse."

"You smell that on me?" Asar-Suti said. "I just caught and trained an owl to take a message to Strahan and the Death Eater he'd gone to your world with," he explained. "And there is a ruddy great ship on the lake, and it looks horrible. As if the always-bigger-fish ahd tried to eat it."

Asar-Suti picked up the black mug with the golden wing pattern. "What shall we do with this?"

"Drink out of it," Gil said. When all's said and done and sentimentality apart, it IS just a mug. Let it fulfill its function."

Asar-Suti put it where the other cups were, in their breakfast nook. Most days, they didn't get to use it, what with the faun so insanely busy, and meals readily available in the bar. But in theory, they could always have breakfast or tea together in their room when they wanted to.

Turning away from there, he faced the sodden and ruined sofa. It smelled still wet, and as if parts of it had dried in the wrong way.

He sighed.
