It's not shocking that she can't find Mark to save herself. It's not even surprising that he phoned from God only knows where to tell the crew that he was cancelling filming. What -is- surprising is that when she opened the door to Adam's makeshift office, Joanne found herself in the bar. Shrugging, she decides that this is about as good as ( Read more... )

April wanders through with a mug of tea.

Her room's in shambles (and covered in broken mirror-glass) since last night's quake.

She's not paying attention, and sort of crashes into the other chair at Joanne's table.

"Ow! Fucking chair!" April flops down in it to examine her shins.

Joanne looks up from her papers, more than slightly startled. "Are you alright, miss?" She pauses, then blinks at her. "You seem slightly familiar somehow."

April makes a face, putting her (mostly full, amazingly) mug on the table, pulling up her pants leg. "Yeah, I'm fine. It just hurt, that's all."

April looks up and tilts her head at Joanne. "I... can't say the same, sadly. Um. April Cornwell." she says with a hesitant smile, offering her hand across the table.

Joanne takes her hand and blinks a bit, recognition dawning, and a facepalm quickly suppressed. "Joanne Jefferson, pleased to meet you. I think we have a few mutual friends." She pauses. "I believe I recognized you from some of Mark Cohen's film." She's not exactly mentioning Roger at the moment. Yet.

April brightens. "Oh, you know Mark?" pause. "Wait, you're Joanne? Maureen's girlfriend?"

Yes, Joanne, she's heard about you. Only briefly.

That would definitely be a facepalm. "Ex-girlfriend at the moment, and likely staying that way, but yes." She shakes her head. "I work for Mark, as legal council to Today for You, and, any other saving of his ass that I have to do."

April laughs. "Sounds like fun. Um... sorry about Maureen?" She's not sure if the breakup is a good thing or not. Knowing Maureen, it might be, though. The girl never could hold down a relationship...

"I don't really know what possessed me to date her in the first place, really."
Did you swoon when she walked through the door?
She shakes her head, but smiles a bit ruefully. "It was a rather noisy break-up. Actually, who am I kidding, they were all rather noisy. She and I had what Mark would call a yo-yo relationship for about a year before we finally broke it off for good. And then about four months later, she's back with Mark." She shrugs.

"It's Maureen. You were possessed. Period. Everyone always was." April grins. They were best friends - she's allowed to dis her.

April's eyebrow goes waaaaay up. "That's a development I never heard of. I though Mark was with... what's her name, Sarah? The CSI?"

Joanne laughs, cheerfully, pushing the papers to one side. "I guess so. Mark and I had a rant about that once. Maureen just... there's no describing her in a way." She shrugs a bit, then goes on, almost professionally. "Oh, Mark's with Sara now. In fact, we were so proud of him, because he dumped Maureen for Sara." She cracks a bit more smile. "Roger went around for a week saying that he never thought Mark had balls that big."

April's smile gets a little... sad and wistful, like it always does when Roger comes up, but she shakes her head, amused.

"Well, honestly, I wouldn't have though Mark was capable of it, either. He was always was... kind of a pushover." She shrugs. "Not in a bad way. But then, it's been a few years, so I hear..."

"About four, I think, if Mark can be belived. He gets his brain wires crossed sometimes, but we love him anyway." She shrugs. "He is a pushover, but honestly, he's getting a lot better. I think finding that he is acutally capable of doing things has done wonders for him. He's flinging money around like there's no tomorrow. Adam and I keep trying to tell him that we dont' need to be paid as much as he does."

April smiles a little. "Well, Mark was always really generous. And he probably doesn't know what the hell to do with it otherwise." She grins. "You seen him on his bike?"

Oh yes, April loves laughing at Mark's motorcycle.

"If you're meaning the motorcycle, there isn't anyone in Santa Fe who hasn't seen him riding the thing." She grins right back. "The first day he rode it to the set, half the crew fell over laughing. A biker is really about the last thing you think of when you look at Mark. He likes to think he's cool sometimes, though, and we let him."

"Oh yes. Thankfully he usually is dissuaded of the notion pretty quickly, and takes it in stride." April grins. She adores Mark's geekiness, and wouldn't have it any other way.

"Well, yes. He knows, or at least he thinks he knows better than anyone that he is a geek, and uncool. However, if you believe any of the fan drivle that's flying around, he's probably one of the coolest guys in the country." She smirks. "People are starting to wear black plastic glasses again. It's actually hilarious to watch." Not to mention the people dressing like Roger, or the new spate of crossdressing.
