"I agree," Fat Charlie says, remembering several times when alcohol has been there for him. And then unwillingly remembering many times more when it hadn't.
But he decides that now's a good time for a drink, putting his previous experiences aside. "Whiskey," he says with a nod. "Yes, whiskey would be great, thanks."
Until now when the chimes started, and the tremors. He grabbed the arms of the chair, clearly startled.
Then he was looking around with concern, wondering what it was.

"This happened yesterday, too. It is like being in a blender."

He has come down from his room, where he felt the tremors while trying to catch a few Z's. Now there's just no way he can sleep.

Jack picks up on the panic, just a little, and manages to keep his voice calm.
"Just an earthquake. It is over."

He swallows. "But...that's the last of it, right? I mean, there won't be another...one? Will there?"

He wrings his hands.
"But it is the second, yes? Were you here last night?"

He frowned. "I had no idea that ...it was also a quake." A pause. "Is something happening to this place?"

"It is my home."

"It is over. Hello, Jack of the Frost at your service."

Holding out his hand, he replies, "I'm Charlie."

"I think I would like a drink. Sit with me?"

"Sure," he says, "that'd be really nice, actually."
