Urza takes a table near the center of the bar, experimentally ordering a Tolarian ale from a passing waitrat. He is more than a little surprised when it is not only delivered, but perfectly aged ( Read more... )

Urza does get...attention. As sudden a focusing as a thunderclap, and just as palpable. Rachel has no issues with magics, they feel like life flows to her...but the baby in her arms is allergic to a certain type, so she has been trying to notice when those life flows start to weave into something stable.

Hence there's a red headed woman staring from a nearby table, flame licking behind the emerald of her eyes as she passes the end of her braid to Elshie to play with.

Urza catches the stare and ducks his head.

"My apologies if I startled you," he says.

"It's alright" Rachel sighed "I'm just a little touchy recently. You're new?" the flame seems to flicker through her hair just before dying away, leaving nothing more than woman and a child.

"New to this place, yes. I was merely taking advantage of the respite to fortify myself. Purely defensive wards, I assure you."

"Milliways is pretty well shielded, though I can't blame you" She chuckled, slipping forward to lean on a stool nearby as Elshie whipped her braid around in chubby little fists.

"Want a hand with layering for anything specific?"

"It isn't my time here that I'm worried about," he assures her. "My aim is to have them back to full strength once I leave. My enemies are mostly concerned with the mana of swamp and mountain, so it is those wards that I concentrate on most."

"Ah" that she understands, the need to rebuild before leaving. She does it herself. More often than she cares to.

"I can't be of much help then I guess...I have nothing at all to offer with elemental works"

That comment made the baby in her arms giggle.

"No?" he asks, surprised. "You seem rather adept with workings of fire, the domain of the mountains."

"Fire..." she mused queitly, bouncing Elshie slightly in her arms "No, I'm sorry...nothing earthbound I'm afraid. It's a hold over manifestation from my adopted mother...who was a bit celestial in origin"

That was her being diplomatic.

Her mother was a star? Well, he's heard of stranger things.

"How interesting. That she could leave such an impression upon you, having not borne you herself."

Her mother ate stars.

"Well, there was alot of strangeness involving bonding, posession, reconstruction, all the fun things" she chuckled. "It gets confusing"

"I can imagine so," he replies jovially. "And how came you to be here?"

She smiled softly at that, glancing towards the door fondly. It was almost a strange expression to see in a woman with so much vitality...but Elshie seemed to love seeing it, reaching up to pat Rachel's cheek gently. "Luck. So many world beyond that door, and yet...here is home. I've been forgotten elsewhere...but never here."

He gives a faint smile at the child's motion.

"I can see how it could be so. On so many worlds out there, my name is a curse. A blight to be wished only upon one's worst enemy. I think it would be better to have been forgotten. But here, there is none of that."
