There's a somewhat already tipsy Mal strolling up to the bar.

"I generally recommend tequila" Lilly replies, attempting to look thoughtful. "The sour helps balance your overwhelming sweetness. However, tonight... I think the Three Stages of Friendship."

She grins.

"Tequila can be the fourth. If you get that far."

"I have ten platinum says that he doesn't," a chipper voice calls from the corner, over Mal's shoulder.

"Hi, Lilly - I haven't talked to you in quite awhile. Keeping busy with the customers?"

Yes, she is referring to happy hour.

"And you Malcolm, haven't called me in two weeks."

Lilly grins wickedly at Sallie.

"Oh, you know I am. But apparently some of the customers are even busier than I thought."

She sighs at Mal.

"Too busy to call your own mother? Really?"

"Disreputable businessman, remember?" Mal appeals somewhat frantically to his mother and the barwoman. "Can't be callin' home all that much."

"Also there's the whole bein'-in-the-Core bit that makes it a bit awkward to call out to the Border."

Sallie rolls her eyes, ordering a cup of green tea from Lilly.

"You could leave me a note here, Malcolm. If you aren't careful, I'll never cook for you again."

"Just Lilly."

"Aww, thanks Sallie."

Lilly's grinning at the prospect of homecooked food and taunting Mal as she slides Mal's drink over and gets Sallie's tea. It's hard to say which is making her happier.

"I promise to eat it very slowly right in front of him, too."

"What are you going to do afterward - strap me down and glitter me?"

...

"Forget I said that. Please forget I said that."

Lilly's smiling like it's Christmas, because, well, it kinda is.

"Malcolm Beauregard Reynolds, I can't believe you said that in front of your mother, and you a married man. God, you know how much I love glitter, it's just not fair to tease me with sparkly bondage that way."

Sallie's eyebrows are raised at both Mal's suggestion and Lilly's reply.

"Lilly?" Sallie leans in conspiratorially.

"If you need any help cornerin' him, I have my ways."

Lilly blinks at that for a moment.

"Well, um... how good are you at tying knots?"

Lilly also recovers quickly.

Mal finally regains enough brain cells to interrupt Disaster In Progress, addressing Sallie first.

"Ma, what are you doing?"

"...What?" Sallie shrugs, laughing loudly. "I thought you two were jokin'. An old lady can't have a sense of humor?"

Sallie stares at Lilly more than Mal at this.

Lilly can't resist.

"No. But I like Inara, so I'd never go through with it."

She starts to grin.

"I mean, unless she was interested too."

Really, really bad at resisting.

"That's a no. Immediately a no."

Sallie looks disappointed, and shrugs.

"I do however think that we can arrange some sort o' entertainment time, though. You and I haven't been able to hang out much lately."

"This is true," Lilly says sadly. "And kinda constitutes you going back on a promise, even."

She looks up at him, lower lip a tad more prominent.

"You owe me a sleepover, mu ji."

Sallie is perking up considerably, which is quite an achievement, considering how close she was to cackling already.
