"Hey, Veronica. You working here now?"

"Just temporarily," Veronica responds, cheerily. "Can I get you a drink?"

Trina considers. "Wine, I think. You can surprise me as to the particulars."

Probably more than Trina would like to be surprised, but let us hope Veronica is feeling kind. Or something.

"Hm."

Veronica's not very good with wines - she picks something red, from Australia (it has a cute rabbit on the label). "There you go.

"So? How're things?"

Shiraz. A perfectly acceptable choice.

A shrug. "Better than I have been, not as good as I could be."

Trina spins the glass on the bartop for a moment.

"I have a dinner date with my ex-husband. Which should be interesting. How are you?"

[watching_you]

"Still lacking ex-husbands, thankfully. Getting ready for college."

Pause.

"Did you ever go? I never thought to ask."

"To college? Went, yes, graduated . . . not so much.

"Logan tells me you're going to Hearst. Congratulations."

"Thanks. You know, I think the idea's growing on me. First I was upset about losing Stanford, but..."

She shrugs.

[dead_hooker_2]

"Everything works out in the end, I suppose."

Long pause.

"And how are you and Logan?"

[watching_you]

Veronica doesn't meet Trina's eyes.

"I'm afraid I can't say anything on that matter. Fifth amendment and all."

[dead_hooker_2]

"Oh, that gets you nothing. I'm an Echolls, sweetie. We're not overly concerned about matters of legality."

[watching_you]

"Touché," Veronica conceeds, with a tilt of her head.

But she still doesn't answer the question.

A fact which Trina noted, Veronica may be sure.

A small smile, as she spins her glass.

And waits.

Appropriately, Veronica's responding smile is glassy.

"So, how 'bout those Sharks?"

"I don't really follow baseball, I'm afraid," says Trina, mildly if insincerely apologetically.

"Yeah, me neither." Desperate to keep the topic from going back to Logan, however, she adds, "Dad likes it though. Big fan."
