Pre-Milliways

A tall, skinny girl pushes the door in with her back, for her hands are still in her pockets. As she turns around she doens't see Eddie, the creepy cashier selling lotto tickets. She sees, well...she doesn't know what she sees. She lets the door shut behind her just as silently as it opened.

Alma Del Mar Jr. has come to Milliways.

She turns to the voice talking to her and blinks.

"Uh, yeah, uh. Give me a minute."

"And perhaps a drink of water or somethin'."

She eyes the glass and then carefully reaches for it, expecting it to be an illusion. When she touches cold glass, she recoils. It's real!

"I guess you say that. How 'bout you?"

She reaches for the glass again. Yep, it's real.

"A job? What'ya do round here? Can't serve drinks since they appear from nowhere."

The water has a calming effect on Junior and she begins to think she just might like it here.

She wonders what kind of riff-raff there are 'round here, but doesn't take that thought too far. She's still a little shell-shocked. She sits on the barstool and keeps sipping her water.

"Junior. Well, Alma Del Mar Jr. is my full name, but I just go by Junior. Keeps me an' my momma seperate."

"Really? Well, the only Del Mars I know are my Daddy, Ennis, and my uncle, but I don't know him too well."

She thinks her daddy would find this whole place rather strange.

She does a small double-take.

"He...he ain't here is he?"

She can't believe it. First bars appear instead of texaco stations, then drinks appear from thin air, and now her daddy is in this place with her. She finishes the last of her water in one big gulp.

Her daddy...here.

"Well, I wouldn't know about his punch. He never paddled me an' Francine when we was little. But I believe you."

Junior has an odd complimentary sense herself. It usually comes after she's put her foot in her mouth.
