The door is opened and a girl of about 18 enters the bar. She's wearing blue denim dungarees over a white t-shirt and her dark hair is in two french braids and she has a small black rucksack over one shoulder. She's talking on a cell phone and paying no attention to where she is ( Read more... )

She would have time to wonder why she's at the end of the universe as opposed to the grocery store were her older brother not at the bar.

Or rather, not out the bar, quite out of his seat, and pulling her into an ecstatic hug.

"Inari!"

What the hell is she doing--oh screw it.

"Thomas? Oh my god Thomas!"

And she's hugging him back tightly.

"What are you doing here? Why aren't you in Chicago?"

"Because I'm here."

Best answer he's got.

"And because here is better than there about, oh, 70% of the time."

And then he's hugging her again.

"Man, I never expected you to show up. If it wasn't your first time here, I'd noogie you, but then you might not want to come back."

She pries herself from his hug, frowning.

"Come back where? Thomas, where are we? This isn't the grocery store. Well, unless the grocery store did some major remodeling."

He pouts at her prying and then rolls his eyes.

"This isn't the...oh jeeze, 'Nari, this is so not the grocery store. And so much better."

He beams at her and nods around the room.

"This is Milliways Bar. It's magic and it can pop up when you least expect it and," and he pulls away again, becuase he's remembering. Because his skin is warming up near her and he knows what that means and he should have remembered it. "And anyway, it's got great booze, plenty of awesome people, and of course, yours truly."

The last part gets a smile. She's missed him. She's missed all her family really, even their father.

"Magic bar? I don't know if it's escaped your notice, brother of mine, but I'm too young to drink."

"Also a resturant," he pipes up, "and besides, it's the people that make the place, didn't you know?"

He grins at her.

"Now...I'm going to have to show you around."

He grins and starts walking, humming a certain Who song, considering. "Well, here's the bar proper. Go up to the counter and ask for what you want and you'll get it. And it'll go on your tab, but you don't need a tender or anything."

She eyes the bar dubiously, then looks at her brother.

"It can give me whatever I want?"

She's wondering if he hit his head recently.

"If this is some kind of joke, I'm totally going to kick your ass," she says before turning back to the bar.

"Can I get a coke?" she asks the bar, feeling like a complete fool.

"No clue," he admits cheerfully, "but it works just fine."

He points up to the tab board.

"Just don't forget to pay there."

"I'll remember."

She picks up the drink and takes a sip.

"That is good coke. So what's next on the tour?"
