Her eyes kind of light up when she spots Spike, and it doesn't take long for Beth to pass her empty bottle off to a rat and make her way from the couch over to the wall beside him.
She leans against the wall, yeah, but ever so slightly against him too.
He smiles, but only enough for Beth to see. "I don't know, pilot. You trying to seduce me?"
Sometimes, it's really hard to be all calm and cool and collected and don't-give-a-fuck when she's right by his side: he gets that unanticipated little pounding of his heart just from how close she is.
But he plucks that smoke out from between his lips and hands it to her, more out of habit than anything else, nice and steady.
She makes him smile, and he thinks he never used to smile this way. It's the feel of her hand between his back and the wall, and the heat of her breath against his ear, and the way she smells and the fire in her eyes: he can't get enough of her. Every day, every night, he wants to be with her. He wants her. He loves her.
When he turns to face her, his voice is low: almost a whisper. "Don't tell anyone, but I bet you don't have to work real hard on that to make me say yes."
He knows if he'd had her by his side out there on Mars before he ever found this place, his life would have been so damn different. But it's worked out the way it's worked out and right now, it feels pretty close to perfect.

And smiling pretty damn contentedly, she inhales a breath of smoke, blows it out, and lets her hand sneak between his back and the wall.
She does pass the cigarette back, though.
