Jack wanders into the bar with as close as he ever comes to a scowl on his face. His clothing is ripped, the top half of his kimono turned to ribbons. His hair is down and he appears beaten up, not to mention several long, nasty slices across his chest and back that are quite fresh. He hardly takes notice of his surroundings as he makes his way to ( Read more... )

"You are hurt." says a gentle voice belonging to a young teen carrying a tiny baby.

"Do you need a doctor, mister Jack?"

Jack glances up at her, eyes partially hidden behind a veil of dark hair before he brushes it aside. His eyes widen at the sight of the child, and despite the pain, he smiles. "No, I will be fine. You have given birth, I see. I am glad that you and your child are both well."

She gently touches his hand holding the bandages.

"Can I at least help?" she asks, watching him. The baby gurgles a little but seems quite happy in the sling on her front.

He is a bit reluctant to accept, but in the end, the ache of his tired muscles wins out. "Very well. If you wish, you may help me. But, if I may ask, what is your child's name?"

She smiles a little. "He's a Jack too." she says, love in her eyes for the infant. "But I'd decided that before I met you. His middle name is Theodore so you may call him that if you like. I was planning on using both names anyway."

She gently tends to his wounds. "The war at your home is no better then?"

"No, unfortunately I was unable to return home. Again. But, I survived at least. That means I can always fight another day." When thrown hundreds if not thousands of years into a bleak future full of evil and corruption, you have to look on the bright side if you plan to live long.

Jack ties his hair back, eager to have it out of his way once more. "Well then, little-Jack-who-is-not-named-after-me, it is a pleasure to meet you. I do hope you grow up to be like your mother here. She seems very kind, even to somebody who is practically stranger." Jack is not the sort of guy who talks to a baby likes it's an idiot.

Bebe!Jack looks at Samurai!Jack, then gurgles and dribbles. Shufti smiles.

"Thank you." She tucks the bandage in neatly.

"Are you going to be all right?" she asks, gently bathing the next one.

"I have suffered far worse. This is simply a few scratches I received for not being faster. I will heal."

There is a pause as he eyes baby-Jack with a small smile. "Where is the father?" He asks, unsure if he is overstepping his boundaries.

[ooc: This mun can't remember either, so don't worry :)]

The smile fades.

"Jack's father was a soldier. He isn't around."

Jack nods solemnly. Whether she means, not in Milliways, or not around as in, well, not around, he doesn't ask. He has a feeling he knows the answer.

"Why Jack?" He asks, taking the warm cup and sipping the tea slowly. "Is it simply a name that appealed to you?"

She nods.

"I didn't want to choose anything too fancy. Since I'm a Betty it would have been out of place. And Theodore is a little more in keeping with Borogravian names."

"Well, Jack is a fine name. In fact, my true name is not Jack. It is simply the the name I chose for myself when I began my quest. Until I am able to return home and free my people, I will go by the name Jack. It is nice, and simple, and is starting to grow on me. I just hope your son has more luck as a Jack than I do."

He sips the tea for a few moments, letting the warm liquid spread peace and calm throughout his body. "Thank you for this, Miss Shufti. It is not often such acts of kindness are delivered onto me."

"What is your real name?" she asks, then places a gentle hand on his shoulder.

"You were kind to me."

Jack smiles and shakes his head. "I was no more kind than anyone should be. It is simply that many are too blind by darkness to see that. As for my name? I cannot tell you. I will go back to that when I have completed my quest at last, but until then, I am afraid I can tell no one."

She blinks.

"You are questing to find out your name?"

Jack laughs, though it causes his wounds to hurt, and shakes his head. "No, Miss Shufti. But I told myself that I would not be that man again, I was not worthy to be that man, until I had saved my world. I am a prince where I come from, but if I cannot undo this great evil, then what sort of prince am I? Certainly not one worthy of the name my parents gave me on the day I was born."
