Duct tape, it's been said, can fix anything.
It's not entirely true, but it's a quick and dirty subsitute until real fixing can happen someplace else.
Which is why Mercer's perched on the back of a booth, toes of one bare foot curled around the edge, with a strip of duct tape between his teeth and one of his sandals in both hands. The roll of tape collars his left wrist like an oversized bracelet.
He rips off a smaller piece from the larger strip and starts wrapping it around the broken heel strap.
