Happy Hour!

Mar 20, 2006 21:37

Whistling cheerfully to himself, George steps behind the bar.

He makes a couple of additions to the Specials board then announces:

"Tonight's drinks are Jack Frost, Jealous Queen, Joulouville and Just Peachy".

"What'll it be?"

"Just Peachy," Penelope reads, raising an eyebrow.

How ironic.

"Evening, miss.." A smile. "Can I get you a drink?"

Never one to resist a cute smile, even with things as rotten as they are, Penelope returns it with one of her own-- significantly more rueful.

"Well, I suppose a little more debt isn't going to hurt."

"That's the spirit." he says, winking at her.

"Just Peachy, for you then?"

The rueful smile hasn't let up in the least bit.

"Oh, why not.

"Perhaps if I keep repeating it to myself, I'll begin to believe it."

"As my lady likes" - he mixes the Peach schnapps and the Iced Tea, as he speaks - and pours the mixtures over the ice.

"I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting you before.."

My lady?

The boys back home could learn a thing or two from him.

"Penelope Clearwater," she replies, brushing a bit of stray hair behind her ear.

"Well Miss Penelope Clearwater..."

He smiles, eyes twinkling - as he passes her drink over the bar.

"I'm George Cooper. And it is my pleasure to meet you."

He does look nice when he does that.

Penelope takes a delicate sip of the drink-- and smiles.

"Mr. George Cooper," she says after a moment, "I don't know if you can grasp how completely and utterly the pleasure is mine."

These bartenders and their sinfully tasty beverages.

He grins. "And where do you harken from, Miss Clearwater?"

"London, these days," she says, taking another sip.

A wry smile. "Rent is terrible, but one never wants for excitement."

"Ah, an English-lass then. I've never seen London with my own eyes, but I've heard many tales.."

She tilts her head slightly, questioning-- and smiling a little at the odd term English-lass.

"Oh? And where are you from?"

"A land called Tortall.. and a city called Corus."

Penelope frowns.

"I've never heard of Tortall, I'm afraid."

Then again, her geography is pretty rusty.

"Not to worry. Few from your world have. To my knowledge, only those who have been brought from the Bar, have ever seen it."

He smiles.

"And what is it that keeps you busy, in London?"
