The front door opens, and Ray slips in. For once, he's not covered in slime. Possibly the fact that he appears to be giving off smoke from several parts of his uniform jumpsuit might have something to do with that. It's something of an improvement, given that he doesn't actually appear to be on fire.Or at least, if he is, it's not enough of a fire ( Read more... )

Prue has a large book that she isn't going to let out of her sight and she has the coffee minus the breakfast. If his PKE meter is on it will more then likely go off as the spirit takes a seat next to him to get a refill on said coffee.

Ray generally doesn't leave the PKE meter on in Milliways if he can avoid it. There are too many magic powers and spirit entities at work in a place like this; it would be going off all the time. Kind of like that car alarm down the street, the one that sounds off if a cat brushes up against the car fender.

On the other hand, spirits without bodies have a tendency to lower the temperature in their immediate area, so Ray is looking around for the source of the sudden chill.

"Hi" the woman greets as she makes eye contact with the smuldering man whcich sadly to say she only just realized and her smile turns into a frown, "Are you okay?" dumb question perhaps but a good lead in none the less.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine," Ray says cheerfully. "Hazard of the profession. Yourself?"

"I'm well." she smiles noting the uniform however she frowns slightly, "Do you have something against ghosts?" pointing to the patch.

For answer, Ray flips out an ID in his duct tape wallet. The City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (Sanitation Division) has seen fit to issue him and the rest of Ghostbusters, Inc. official city identification.

"It's the job, ma'am. Ghostbusting's what I do for a living."

"You can make a living busting ghost's?" he is most defenitely not from her world. "What about spirits?" as there is a distinction as a professional she hopes he knows that.

"Oh, yeah," Ray says. "Ghosts, spirits, demons- granted, we don't get a whole lot of those and usually they're more a case of some kind of badly phrased wish somewhere than anything else- malicious gods, you name it. And the occasional monster, although that, fortunately, hasn't happened in a while. That's never anything but messy."

"Sounds like you do good work. But how do you make a living doing such a thing?" as she and her sisters never made a dime doing it. But then again that may have something to do with the fact that the people of her world are oblivious.

Ray shrugs, putting the wallet away. "Advertising and a good business plan," he says. "And technology licensing, of course. Some of our stuff's useful to the civilian population, so we've licensed it out to power companies and the like. That's a nice little income stream right there."

"So you fight demons and ghosts with technology and not magic?" this is getting more interesting by the minute. "And the general population know about ghosts, spirits, demons, gods, and other supernatural creatures?" a very scary idea to Prue. "How do they handle such knowledge?"

"Oh, yeah. I mean, not that we don't do research into the fundamental theorems behind magic, but it tends to be kind of unreliable. Give me a good, solid proton thrower any day." Ray grins. "As for the general population, some of 'em believe and some of 'em don't. The ones who believe tend to see it as an inconvenience more than anything- at least, the ones who call us do."

"On my world when the general population finds out about magic there are witch hunts that end up costing many innocent lives." Prue frowns recalling the past.

"And I find Magic to be just as reliable as technology." which means it doesn't always work as you expect it to.

"Yeah? What year is it? Sounds like your general population could use a good stiff dose of bran cereal, if you don't mind my saying so."

But Ray smiles. "Oh, Spengs and I make all our own technology. We wouldn't wear it if we weren't one hundred per cent sure it would do what we needed it to do."

"It's currently 2006 in my world. It's sad to think that we could still expect witch trials. The government knows about magic but they keep the secret as well as they can."

"Huh," says Ray. "The cops bring us half their crazies to identify whether they're actually something to do with spirits or not. And- well, you saw the ID. That's from the city government. Really, they mostly treat us like exterminators."
