Near the middle of the bar is a decently-large sized table. In the middle of the table is a huge pot of tea, and mugs are strewn hap-hazardly around the table. The people around the table are varied, but all seem to be in various states of agitated discussion about something ( Read more... )

There are certainly a lot of people round that table. For Ben, open to the Force just a trickle at the moment, it's almost too much noise -- but there's a Jedi, he can feel that before he even recognises the robes (though not the person), so he approaches.

The others get a wary glance -- with a nod at Mark, a smile at Val, and distracted curiosity at Biggs -- before he turns to Qui-Gon and says, "Are you a Jedi Master?"

The others simply smile at the youngster before going back to their discussions. Qui-Gon smiles at him, a gentle interest. "I am, youngling. Who are you, if I might ask?"

Ben nods triumphantly and stands a little straighter. "My name's Ben Skywalker. Um, I've never seen you on Ossus -- are you from the past?"

Qui-Gon beams. "Ah. If I haven't missed my guess, your father is Luke Skywalker." He cracks a bit of a wry smile. "I knew your grandfather when he was about your age, so yes, you could say that I am of your past."

Ben's eyes go wide. "You knew my grandfather? When he was nine? That's so astral!"

He grins at the Jedi. "What was he like?"

Qui-Gon grins. "He was one of the most determined and enthusiastic boys I have come across." He leans across the table, smirking. "Do you know what a pod race is?"

Still wide-eyed, Ben shakes his head. "Never heard of them. What is it?"

Qui-Gon grins. "It is a race, with small mechanical speeder-like contraptions on Tatooine. They go quite fast, and one must have quite the dexterity to stay alive. Your grandfather is the only human to ever race in one, let alone win."

"That's cause he was the best pilot ever," Ben says proudly. "I mean, after Dad.

"--do you think they still have it in my time? I've never heard of it but I've never been to Tatooine..."

Oh dear. He wants to try it out now.

"I do not know if it is still around, youngling. It might be." He pauses. "However, it is quite dangerous, even for one of your abilities." Yes, Qui-Gon knows how strong a Skywalker is in the Force.

Ben pouts, but only for a moment -- he's quite pleased about the recognition of his abilities.

"I guess I gotta learn to fly better first," he concedes. "But I'll try it one day! It sounds like fun."

Val looks over. "Ben, you do realize your mom will kick your rear into next week if you do that, right?" Mara, double standard? Never.

Qui-Gon just laughs, shaking his head.

Ben scowls at her quickly. "But it'd be fun! Dad used to race in his, his, skyhop thing when he was a kid!"

It's amazing how much he remembers about history and things when it suits him.
