Mary Lennox is clutching a book, today, as she enters the bar; she makes her way over to the counter, climbs up onto a seat, and sits down to flip through it, a faint scowl of a frown on her face.

From the pictures on the pages she's opened to, it's a book about gardening. This isn't exactly unusual, for Mary - although previously she's tended to focus more on flowers than trees.

Trees, it turns out, are proportionally more difficult to grow than flowers. This is not surprising, but it's still vexing.
