Theoretically, a blind man who opens a door and expects to find a certain setting on the other side won't be able to realize immediately that he has found someplace... else

"That's... either more or less relieving than you meant it," he says faintly. "I'm not really sure which."
The cat is looking up at her also, which isn't really a surprise for anyone who knows the situation. An amused bass voice that isn't exactly a voice follows the boy's words with :Greetings, Lady.:
This has the mild and unfortunate side effect that the boy, who echoes the "Greetings, Lady Hel," with an addition of "I am Karal, and this is Altra," is left blind again.
Conversing with someone Altra is complacently informing him is a sort of goddess, although not any he will recognize from any country he knows, is... possibly almost not surprising anymore. Certainly he's willing enough to believe it's best to take her word for what to call her.
She's resisting the urge to pick Altra up and give him a good cuddle. He's practically kitten sized for her!
Okay, full grown cat sized. Still. Eminently cuddle-able.
"The rules require that you do not commit violence within the bar, that you do not have sexual relations in the main room, and that any outside business not be brought in. The Asgard can not attack me, you could not attack your worst enemy."
Also leaps out of her arms, twining around Karal's legs long enough for a hand to land on his shoulder again, before helping Karal over to the table, jumping up into one of the other chairs a moment later.
"Tea would be nice," Karal says, adding firmly "as long as it's not Shin'a'in butter-tea."
The soprano is amused, and comes from far, far above his head,
"Welcome to Milliways."

Possibly not quite this far.
(Possibly not quite all that used to it, yet.)
"Milliways?" he repeats, voice cracking just slightly.

She has her left side averted from habit, and gives Altra the sort of look that means he might as well join the conversation if he feels like it.

She says cheerfully, and she first kneels and then bends so that the cat can sniff her (living) hand/get petted.
"Greetings, bright one."
She informs the cat, then both of them,
"I am Hel."

Hel's nails scritch under Altra's chin for a moment,
"And, again, welcome to Milliways Karal and Altra. The first drink is free, and if you wish I can tell you the rules."

She says quietly, gesturing toward a table where Karal and Altra can sit,
"Tea, alcohol, milk...? Have you eaten? Mortals need to do that."
And, yes. She is including Altra as a mortal.

She says, and comes back with a pot of tea, a saucer of tea, things to put in tea, and hot cocoa for herself.

She lives in Niflheim.
"A tiny bit to your left."
Helpfully. She's half blind. She understands,
"I am told that the tea here is very good."

"It is quite good," he continues, smiling up at her, although the angle isn't quite right to be looking at her. "Do you not drink it, yourself?"
