"Did you put that there?" Teja asks, approaching.

"No," Sallie offers wryly. "Don't much go with the decor, does it?"

"You might not wish for it to be ornamental, but useful instead?" Teja says. "Do you wish it removed?"

"Feel free to try, if you'd like?"

Teja pokes it with his axe, comparatively gently at first. If it is likely to explode, or display some unusual magic, he would rather be careful, than endanger everyone else.

The poking doesn't do much.

It doesn't do anything, actually - except allow the axe to pass right through it.

"Hunh. Hologram maybe?"

Teja swings his axe again to pass it, blade first, through the crystal.

"It is not made of matter that my axe would be able to touch," he says.

"We have those kinds of images in my world, but someone would have to be projecting it from somewhere."

"Then to make it go away," Teja says, "one merely needs to find where the light comes from, and block it?"

"Correct. But I can't imagine where it's coming from."

Teja starts waving his axe around the green thing. "If it flickers," he says, "then my blade has touched the beam that makes it; and as light travels straight, we may follow to the source."

Even with such a helpful purpose, Teja swinging his axe makes Sallie nervous - but she doesn't say anything.

It really is a good idea, so she'll sit and watch him try to puzzle it out.

"Did you see it flicker?" Teja asks her, resting his axe. He isn't sure. It might have been flickering, but it might have the green light glinting off his axe.

"Not at all," Sallie frets.

Slowly, Teja moves the blade of his axe around the crystal again, staring at it so see of it flickers. He's handling the heavy weapon with great precision, moving it from his wrist and elbow, as if it wasn't heavier than a conductor's baton or magic wand.

"Weapon of choice?"
