With work done for the day, and Thirteen looking to unwind, the young doctor finds herself in Milliways this evening.

So, armed with a book and a plate of fried paradoxes, she takes up residence in one of the Bar's many couches and alternates between reading, and people-watching as she lounges.

Botherable.

The backdoor opens on rainy darkness, and Karkat stomps in. He frequently stomps, though, and tonight he doesn't look as much pissed off as worn out. He cross the room and flops full-length on the floor in front of the fire, damp, grungy and sweaty. He has a sickle in his hand, which he could easily stow in his strife specibus, but he lets it clatter on the floor anyway.

"BLRGH," he says; it doesn't sound too unhappy, for a shapeless noise. Sometimes you just need to beat the shit out of something. Or everything.

Thirteen looks up at the noise, and soon spots the troll not too far away.

"Hey again," she says in greeting. "You alright?"

He twists his head uncomfortably to peer at her through a ragged curtain of hair. "OH IT'S YOU."

"I AM GOING TO TAKE IT AS A PARTICULARLY SALTY INSULT THAT YOU THINK THERE IS ANYTHING ON THE GROUNDS OF THIS PLACE WITH THE SLIGHTEST CAPACITY TO TROUBLE MY SERENE BADASSITUDE. YOU CAN FEEL FREE TO THINK OF ME AS TROLL WILL SMITH IN THAT MOVIE WHERE HE IS A RAGING BADASS AND CONSUMMATE LOVER, WHICH IS ALL OF THEM."

"THE CONSUMMATE LOVER PART IS NOT PARTICULARLY RELEVANT BUT IT IS AN IMMUTABLE FACT I AM CHOOSING TO STATE FOR THE RECORD AT THIS TIME."

Yeah he's fine. Mostly.

"I never presumed to assume that you couldn't take anything but excellent care of yourself," she says with a roll of her her eyes. "But you collapsing in a heap within spitting distance of me does cause some worry."

"I'M TIRED," he says tersely. "AND THERE WAS A THING CHEWING ON MY TORSO FOR A WHILE BUT I STOPPED THE BLEEDING, IT DOESN'T MATTER. IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S ANYTHING IMPORTANT IN MY TORSO."

"I WENT INTO THE LABYRINTH AND BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF SOME THINGS FOR A WHILE, THAT"S ALL."

"Would explain why you look chewed up and spit out," she responds, and pushes the plate towards him some. "Here, eat something."

He nabs one of the paradoxes. "IT WASN'T ANYTHING VERY INTERESTING, JUST SOME WHOLLY DISPROPORTIONATE CATHARTIC VIOLENCE."

He stretches, wincing and showing his teeth.

"Some catharsis is always good," she agrees, watching concernedly as he stretches and winces. "You're sure your blood's staying inside you, then? I don't have to patch you up?"

"MY BLOOD STAYS WHERE EVER THE FUCK I PUT IT," he says. "THAT'S KIND OF MY THING."

"I WILL BE FINE. BESIDES I WAS KIDDING, I HAVE A LOT OF VALUABLE SHIT IN MY TORSO AND I DON'T NEED AMATEURS RUMMAGING AROUND IN THERE."

"I'm a doctor," she says simply. "That makes me anything but an amateur."

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT WORD MEANS," Karkat says, in apparent seriousness.

Eyebrows rise at that, but she elaborates nonetheless.

"I help and fix people who are sick or hurt."

He gives her a shifty, mistrusting look.

"OH, LIKE AN IATROCISIONIST. BUT PROBABLY MORE SQUISHY AND WEEPY SINCE IT'S A HUMAN THING. GOT IT. WELL, I DON'T NEED TO BE PUT DOWN LIKE A HOOFBEAST WITH A BROKEN STEM EITHER, SO THANKS BUT NO THANKS."

She rolls her eyes once again.

"I never said anything about putting you down. That's sort of against the oath I took as a doctor."

"WOW THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL, IT IS THE JOB OF AN IATROCISIONIST TO MAKE SURE IF A SOLDIER IS WORTH PATCHING UP OR HAS BECOME DEAD WEIGHT."

"THAT IS WHY I NEVER LET THAT SHITBAG EQUIUS NEAR ME, HE WAS THE CLOSEST THING TO ONE WE HAD AND HE WAS READY TO DRAG ME OUT BEHIND THE WOODSHED WITH THE SLIGHTEST FUCKING EXCUSE."

"That, is a vaguely terrifying thought," she admits with a wince. "Though you can be assured none of the doctors here would do that, if you ever need the help."
