A life is a small thing that can be destroyed in an instance, and Demeter has watched so many fall before her eyes. Urquhart carries himself as if his life will last longer, even though it’s already gone. Glory, love, so many things that mortals hold onto with both hands -- yet he seems to care for none of them. Instead he speaks of prizing a good reputation in his work of killing, and women, and drink.

He confuses her and intrigues her as he doesn’t seem to know how to be more than he is. She knows how to find that green spark within anyone and any place, for that is what she does: She helps things grow. Yet within him, she’s not sure where its hiding. The night with him was pleasurable, he does know how to love a woman, but now as she watches him sleep, Demeter wonders of his dreams. He doesn’t even look truly innocent as she strokes his hair, but plotting and thoughtful.

Zeus has always had that look as if he’s wondering what he can make of what comes next. She’s always found it a tiring way to see the world, but some would say it brings more profit than hers. Profit though is such a mortal thing. Zeus found his profit in women and children, but she’s not sure what Urquhart finds his in yet.

She will find out.
