Sometimes he wished he could dream.
Oh, he was having fun. Absolutely. Baghdad was dusty and violent and utter pandemonium. It was beautifully squalid.
He did wish he had someone around to help him groom his wings. He wasn’t turning his back on Abigar if he could help it.
He certainly wasn’t pining away or anything. He didn’t have a lot of time to daydream. The very idea was a joke. He was barely sleeping.
Still, when he did manage to sleep, his last thought before the world turned black was that it would be nice if he could dream of white wings, and home.
