I have gotten my brother Ching Yang, affectionately known as LB around these parts, into Battlestar Galactica. I subsequently made him a motivational comic which I pasted in his room to let him know that he too, can save mankind, if only he would hit the gym and parade around in a skimpy towel once in a while.
(
I shall share it with you all, because one can never have too many saviours of mankind. )
I randomly found you by searching for jiang yuyuan in the interests box and you are the only person to show up. Seems I had seen your icon journal previously while looking for some olympic icons, too..
Then Galactica? You are one leet person.

I'm going to have to go ahead and add her to my interests as well. I haven't updated my interests list in ages so it doesn't really reflect, well, my interests. Ha! Unfortunately I don't see her taking a medal in the AA considering Liukin & Johnson are just the bread and butter of the field, and Yang Linlin scored qualified higher, so for Jiang Yuyuan to make it, she'd have to out perform her teammate. I wouldn't mind, though. :)
I need more icons of her, though, all I've got is this adequate one that a friend made hehe
haha yeah Galactica is leet for sure. I took my sweet time getting into it but once I did I was hooked and have been a proponent of the cylons from day one. I am very excited about the coming half season and movie as well as very interested in the ( ... )

It's very tight between the two! Yilin beat Yuyuan in prelims because JYY very uncharacteristically bombed her Amanar; Yuyuan actually beat Yilin at Chinese Nationals this year. In the run-up to these games, although Yilin bested Yuyuan when they participated in the French Nats! Yuyuan was largely considered the Chinese favourite to medal in AA at these games, although Yilin's consistency so far definitely puts her in the mix.
Unfortunately I don't see her taking a medal in the AA considering Liukin & Johnson are just the bread and butter of the fieldI actually don't agree with that, the scores indicate that the AA will be a very exciting battle between the Chinese and the Americans (this is of course assuming that all 4 bring their A-game and no one falls ( ... )

The things I miss by being upset with the FIG and ignoring one of the coolest sports. :(
Nastia is still the bread, though, and Shawn still the butter. Yuyuan is the other slice of bread and Yilin is the cheese. *mmm... grilled cheese*
Anyways!
I would be extremely joyful if Yuyuan is able to take AA. I'd like to see it be Yuyuan, Shawn, Yilin, but Nastia deserves to be there for sure.
I've just added you as a friend. I don't mention a lot about Galactica but I'm insanely commenting on the Olympics in three sports. I've also got a couple of coms I started but haven't done anything with, yet, one for BSG and one for Yuyuan. :D Perhaps you can help me with either?

Nastia deserves to be there for sure.
As much as I love the beauty of the Chinese gymnasts, I feel that out of all the AA contenders for gold, Nastia is the most deserving. She has overcome so much, and while not without her flaws, she epitomises everything I love about this sport: beauty, grace, artistry, longevity and love for what she does; a lot of these things which the new code of points threatens to take away. She reminds me of some of the old Soviet-era gymnasts, and I freakin' love her for it.
After watching 3 straight World Championships in which trick-chucking has taken precedence over form and artistry, I very much want Nastia to prove that there is another way to win.

hm... no comments as to the two communities? ;)
re: the new code. I 'left' the sport, so to speak, after 2000; the debacle of us trials, the scandal surrounding Raducan and then of course the equipment problems were just too much. I did come back to watch Patterson in '04, then I got to see her live which was very exciting!
So, really, I haven't had any experience with the new code until the us trials this year. :\

*groans* Oh, the new COP. It has so many problems which I don't feel like getting into because I'm really sick and tired of it. But basically, A scores can be padded to the point where it doesn't matter how well you can do the skill, just as long as you can throw it and not die; deductions for falls &c aren't harsh enough, and judges just aren't strict enough with form deductions either, which they have to be for gymnastics to begin to be fair under this code. I hope the revisions and changes they introduce for the next quad will result in a marked improvement in the quality of gymnastics on the elite scene.
It's horridness is exemplified in the instance of Vanessa Ferrari winning the AA at Worlds '06 with a fall.
You can youtube videos of her; but I warn you, it's really not pretty. Brace yourself for trick-chucking and disgusting form.

I am gonna be trying to work on th JYY community, today.
well I really hope the judging improves. It was because of the judging at the US Trials pre-Sydney, and then the way they chose the team, then how the Olympics went that year... it was all just beyond me to care after that :(
I watched Patterson in '04 and had to listen to Khorkina, and I think there was even an age debate then over CP, briefly? *shrug* I miss the old COP, I kinda miss the old vault...
