Happy Father's Day

The history of Father's Day dates back to 1909, in Spokane, Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd was listening to a Mother's Day sermon, at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church. The lecture inspired her to have a special day dedicated to her father, William Jackson Smart, who had brought her up and her siblings, single-handedly, after their mother died.

My mum told me this the other day. So, I quoted it. But it's nice, right?

My dad liked his Touch of Frost DVDs and card-avec-poodle. I also made him an origami Pierre, though I had no orange paper so I made it out of the cover of my RS book. (Rather embarrassingly, the site I got the instructions from was called 'Origami for Under 10's'. But whatever.) I don't think he expected anything, so he was really happy. :)

Went out the other day with Neil and Mo (and Steph and partly Helen). Letters to Juliet was surprisingly good, and we did our normal 'talk through the whole film' deal and probably pissed off the woman who was, oddly, watching it all on her own. The Works held untold treasures of Father's Day gifts for Neil and I, and I got my foot run over my a mobility cart while trying to reach the til.

I watched Diva today with my dad (Father's Day bonding, wotwot), because it's one of his favourite films, which is basically an artsy 80's film that goes something like this-

A guy stalks a very good opera singer, who never makes records of her voice (for some deep personal reason)
This guy is a postman and delivers her a letter, in the progress making an illegal recording of her voice and taking a dress
He meets a woman who takes topless pictures
While delivering something, a woman who is being hunted by a gang drops a tape (in which she unveils that the cheif of police is in the gang) into the guy's post bag
Gang and police try to murder the guy
Guy, meanwhile, thinks they're trying to kill him to get the tape he made of the opera singer
Guy get's topless-woman's friend to shoot them all
There's a really depressed looking guy in the gang who doesn't say anything other than 'I don't like elevators'
He falls down the elevator shaft
Opera singer and guy listen to the tape of her and then snog
T3h eNd!!!!1!!

I'm fairly sure I wasn't the only one who was overjoyed when they saw Rory alive and well and roman-y on Doctor Who. I'm also fairly sure I'm not the one who was not sad when he shot Amy. So, Steph, no need to be jealous of her any more, eh?

Since I did previously, I leave you with what I'm listening to at the moment- I love Squeeze, and my dad got me listening to them, so it seems appropriate.

ONLY ONE MORE EXAM, BITCHES. :D

holiday, father's day, study leave
