I Now Realize How Easy It Is...
... to fall so deep into Asian entertainment that you don't even recognize who you are anymore. If someone had told me 3 years ago, when I first got into the whole Asian craze with the first manga I ever read (which was Kyousuke Motomi's Beast Master), that I'd be so deeply into the Asian (specifically Korean) entertainment scene, I would have laughed in their face.
These days, I'm all about websites like Seoulbeats and Allkpop and even Antikpopfangirl(a site that makes it its motto to make fun of kpop idols) and stalking their sites for the newest updates.
It's terrifying, I tell you.
I watch all these Korean variety shows with my favorite idol groups and it's gotten to the point that I even understand the cultural references made in those shows.
And as for the obsession... I get so obsessed with songs and, subsequently, idol groups so easily nowadays that it scares even me.
Take this song by MBLAQ, for example, which I keep playing over and over again even though I had never listened to the group before:
I'm so addicted to this song that I've read up so much on the group just because I want to know whom is whom is the MV. I've also sussed out their competition, B2ST, just to make sure I like MBLAQ better (and I do) but I'm pretty sure it's just because I'm biased.
This isn't funny, people.
I spend the time that I'm not in class looking up info on my bias groups like SNSD, Brown Eyed Girls, KARA, T-ARA, F(x) ,2NE1, basically almost all current girl groups and my favorite boy groups like 2pm, 2am, Big Bang, Shinee, Super Junior, and now MBLAQ.
The really annoying part is my dorm's internet really sucks so I wait for ages just to get the variety shows that have my bias in them to load before I watch them and by the time they finish loading, I'm either sleepy of not in the mood.
I keep trying to stop but dammit, Korea has a lot lot of variety shows. Interesting ones too. So I'm screwed!!.
I need help :(
E.T.A. So in the course of checking out the competition for my MBLAQ bias, I fell in love with B2ST (because of their album Fiction and Fact) too. And Infinite (their song Be Mine is to die for). They're both going on my list now. What can I say, I'm definitely not a loyal fan. As long as I like your song, I like your group :)
