Author's Notes: Young Justice-era silliness. Happy Birthday,
shananagin! Hope you enjoy!
"You gave Bart WHAT, Kon?"
"A Red Bull."
Tim could feel a migrane building already. "And why exactly did you think it was a good idea to give the most hyper kid alive the most caffeinated drink in existence?"
"Dunno." Kon shrugged. "Just seemed like the thing to do. Nothing's on TV. C'mon, tell me you're not interested to see how this turned out!"
"...Well, we might as well see the damage." Tim said as he opened the door to the Justice Cave and looked inside to find...the cave cleaner than it had ever been. "What?"
"Oh, hi, guys! I don't know what it is, but I can think really clearly today. Might have something to do with the soda Kon gave me. So I figured I'd organize the cave, redo the security system - watch your step, Tim. There's lasers - and go over the training tapes to figure out how we can optimize the team's performance in fights! I never realized how much you can get done when you focus!" Bart zipped off to put the finishing touches on what looked like a miniature nuclear reactor. "This cold fusion project is gonna kill me, though!"
Kon blinked. "Well, this did not go how I was expecting."
"So...apparently for Bart, whose natural state is super-caffeinated, caffeine is the equivalent of speedster Ritalin. " Tim rubbed his forehead. "That doesn't make sense on any level."
"Does much around here?"
"...Touche. So, do you have any idea how to reverse this? I mean, hyperfocused Bart is kind of useful, but scary."
"Huh." Kon scratched his head. "Well, if Red Bull makes him focused, maybe something calming will make him hyper again? I don't know, what's that thing the girls always drink?"
"Hibiscus tea? Well, it makes about as much sense as the rest of this. I'll brew a pot."
Suddenly, the cave was rocked by an explosion coming from the back.
"Sorry, guys! All in the name of scientific progress!"
Tim shot a pointed look at Kon as he headed to the kitchen. "Yeah, you're cleaning that up, Kon."
A short while later, Tim walked out of the kitchen with a freshly brewed pot of tea. Instinctively, he looked around to make sure Bart wasn't going to barrel into him, but that wasn't going to be a concern today. He walked over to the computer, where Bart was hurriedly working on some complex math formula.
"Hey, Bart. Do you want something to drink?"
"In a minute, Tim! I think I'm on the verge of a breakthrough here!"
Tim sat down next to Bart, watching him work. "Bart...are you happy like this? More focused?"
"Well...it is useful to be able to concentrate. Do...you like me like this?"
Tim laughed. "Well, I'd like you whether you were focused or not. It's nice not to have to worry about you barreling into me, but I kind of miss your trademark craziness, too. You always made me laugh."
"But I'm always driving you crazy."
"Yeah, but I wouldn't have it any other way." Tim leaned in and kissed Bart. "You're my hummingbird. This tea might put you back to normal. But it's totally your call if you want to drink it. Otherwise, we can keep on getting you Red Bulls."
Bart's eyes darted from Tim to the tea. After a minute's hesitation, he grabbed it and drank the whole thing.
"Careful, that's - "
"HOTHOTHOT!"
"...Hot. Do you feel any different?"
Bart blinked for a second. "You know what would be awesome?"
"I'm all ears."
"We find a turtle, and a rabbitt, and see if the turtle can go two for two! Berightback!"
Papers flew around the room as Bart sped out. Tim grinned. It was good to have Bart back.
