Greta snuck away from the lunchroom into her dorm room, hoping her current houseguest hadn't been discovered yet. She was just glad the Elias School had gone co-ed last year, or this would have been even more awkward.
"Kon? You still here?"
Kon turned around from staring out the window(the exact same position Greta had seen him in when she left for class that morning). "Where else am I going to go?"
"I don't know, Kon! All I know is, you showed up in that wormhole, fly off to Titans tower, and then I find you here crashing on my bed. Have you been to see Superman? That family Cassie said you were living with?"
Kon shook his head. "And tell them what? 'Hey, guys! You know how you spent the last year and a half mourning the son you saw die on national TV? Yeah, not so much. What's for dinner?' Everything's messed up now, Greta. Tim seems depressed all the time. He barely reacted when he saw me, like he couldn't believe it. Cassie...she's messed up. I don't even know what it is, but it scared me. And Bart....It seems like I died, and everything went to hell. What am I supposed to do now?"
"Yeah, but why here? I mean, it's awesome that I'm the first person you thought to come to, but it's not like I know anything about - " The connection hit Greta like a ton of bricks. "Omigod. I'm dumb."
"Nah, not really. But I figured you might know a little about this. You did come back from the dead too."
"So did Superman! I mean, we haven't talked since Young Justice. I never really got the feeling you liked me much back then, either. Secret - I mean I - kind of seemed to freak you out."
"Yeah, but I was really dumb back then. And I get it. I was a shitty friend once Young Justice broke up. I guess...I was just hoping you were a better one. I shouldn't be messing up your life. I'll go."
As Kon headed for the window, Greta put her hand on his shoulder. "Hey, that's the best thing about coming back from the dead. Total blank slate. If you want my help...you've got it. Besides...I really did miss hanging out with you guys. It's just me and Cissie here now, and she's been gone a lot with competitions. I miss Young Justice. Even you, you big goof."
"Right back at you, Spooky."
Greta smiled. "You know, after Young Justice closed down, Cissie and I went back to the cave and cleaned it out. I really didn't want all the stuff there to wind up on Ebay. Besides, you never know when something will come in handy. Like now."
Greta ran to her closet and rummaged through it until she found a small black package, which she handed to Kon with a big grin on her face. Eyeing her with slight suspicion, he unwrapped it - and gasped.
It was a slightly worn, if still wearable, leather jacket with a big yellow "S" on the back.
"I figured, since you were starting your life over, you might want to start at the beginning."
Kon looked at the leather jacket in his hands. Somehow, it seemed to make a lot of things fall into place. And before he knew it, he had Greta in his arms, softly kissing her on the lips.
"Whoa? What are you doing, Kon?"
"Something I probably should have done a while back, if I wasn't stupid."
"And I wasn't intangible."
"Yeah, that." Kon laughed, as he slipped the jacket over his shoulders. "I've got a life to get back to. And Greta...call me Conner. Conner Kent."
Greta tried to remember where she heard that name before. "Kent? As in the reporter, Clark Kent? So is he - ?"
"Yep, it would be kind of awkward to introduce you to everyone if you didn't know their name. Once they know I'm alive, that is."
Kon sped over, kissed Greta on the cheek, and disappeared out the window before she could react. Greta collapsed backwards on her bed. Cissie was never going to believe what happened while she was at Nationals.
