Holy shit, he's really the President, people!

It kind of doesn't seem real. yet. There were people all down the streets of Northampton on my way home just incredibly psyched to be, well, alive right now, tonight. Here. Now. It was like a mini V-E Day or something, people just out on the sidewalks in droves all the way downtown, cheering at anyone driving by who honked their horns, enjoying being with each other. The upstairs neighbors at my friends' house came downstairs to say hi and meet, apparently for the first time, even though they've been living above them for god knows how long. It's like the world has lost its awkwardness for a few hours and everyone is just smiling and waving and saying hi to each other, giddy with excitement. Total strangers, whatever, it doesn't matter. People just seem to all feel connected, at least for just this one night.

Tomorrow is tomorrow, but tonight just feels wonderful.

I can't wait to see my students tomorrow. Some of them were voting for the first time in their lives tonight because they really believed in Obama, and they dared to hope it would make a difference if they bothered to vote. I can't wait to see their reactions.

ETA: So, just for the LOLZ, Delaware re-elected Joe Biden back to his Senate seat anyway. :) Imagine if he could be veep and senator simultaneously?

I've heard that in Delaware they don't bother having a special election when they lose a senator. They just appoint someone. Maybe they'll just give Biden's Senate seat to the puppy Obama promised his kids tonight. :D
