[Afterthought] Sci-Regency by J.L. Langley

It's been a while since I last posted anything on my livejournal. So I figure it's time to dust this babe off. My life is as uneventful as ever with everyday going to school, then homework and reading assignments, then volunteering... I'm hoping to add working somewhere in that boring schedule.

Anyway, that aside, these 2 days I have been on what I called A Gay Romance Book Marathon. I have finished 6 of them within two days, and dang, I still want to read more (If only I am this productive when it comes to school work). So I'll just post my afterthoughts about each of them here because I want to save something like a reading journal. I'm pretty sure some time in the future I'll go back and read some of them again, so I figure keeping a reading journal will help me later on. I'll just start with the ones that I read these two days... I have read some before, but I need to read them again to pinpoint my afterthought.

Sci-Regency series by J.L. Langley
The series includes two books, My Fair Captain and The Englor Affair with its third installment currently being written. It's not a top-notch or exceptional series. The setting is  interesting. The story takes place in far future, and there's this kingdom where patriarchy is too emphasized that man-man relationship becomes a norm in society (along with heterosexuality, but the latter is just not as popular.) And they have these technologies that can alter a human's DNA before he is born so that he prefer men to women. But it is just among the aristocracy.
The plot, on the other hand, is not that original. If I have to choose a word to describe it, I'll go with "typical". So basically you have a hot guy, and a pretty guy who were attracted to each other at first glance. Some stuff happened. Then they got married, and had hot steamy sex. That pretty much summed up the relationships in both books. However, the series has its own charms, which spelled "characters". Even though they may not be the most original characters ever, the chemistry among them is just so adorable that it put a goofy smile on your face throughout the reading time. Each prince had his own personality and rebellious self (except the oldest one). Together, they created hell. The Dads (yes Dads!) are fun to read too. You have these protective parents who are disciplined (aka the "Mom") and laid-back (aka the Dad). To be honest, I was looking forward to tibits of this royal family more than the main couple themselves. Oh, and of course, other characters are really interesting and help build up the awesomeness of this series as well. I secretly wish there would be an installment about the Dads because seriously, they are THAT entertaining!
I personally prefer the 2nd book than the 1st one. There was just something about the 2nd couple and how they met that raised their scores on my interest scale. The only thing about it is that there was not as much family interaction as in the first one, but it's still a joyful read with adorable chemistry, good-looking men and hot steamy sex. I myself am looking forward to the third installment of the series
