Today marks LAS: Season 2 coming out on DVD stateside! I hope those of you buying retail have a great day at the registers, and those who pre-ordered have already gotten your discs!
The major natonwide retailers (Wal-Mart, Circut City, Target, Best Buy) all seem to be carrying the sets, and they're retailing across the board for $27.95
I got mine Saturday: fantastic packaging, IMOHO, though not as luxe as Season 1. The dividers are sharp at the edges and can scratch your discs if you aren't careful, but I like it better than the slipcase thing for season 1. The menus are much fancier and there's even a pictoral theme holding the entire set together thematically (the menus and the packaging are supposed to represent the look of a drive-in-movie theatre).
If you're just purchasing now, you should be forewarned that some music has been changed, and a couple of Carmine numbers have been cut to avoid licensing issues. I think Paramount had to finally pick-and-choose which songs they wanted to pay royalties for and which songs were vital to the episode to streamline everything as much as possible(The couldn't release Citizen Krane without the rights to "Da Doo Ron Ron," for instance). The following have been positively identified as missing:
Look Before You Leap: "Once In Love With Amy" (Sung during the tag scene at the Pizza Bowl by Carmine)
Excuse Me, May I Cut In: "Tutti Frutti" (Sung by Carmine)
So if you're a big Carmine fan and/or a completist, you might want to hang onto whatever dubs you have. Otherwise, there is some extra footage and the eps are complete, and I reccomend buying it to support the show (And thereby getting the rest of it out on DVD).
The only thing I'd kill for is extras. I know it's impossible for them to provide to us considering how the show's tended to sell, but extras are what sell DVDs. It's a total catch-22 and we're all missing out when we don't get commentaries, bloopers (LAS has a legendarily huge amount of bloopers, enough to make good featurettes on each season's discs), alternate language tracks (wouldn't you kill to see a door gag done in French, Chinese or Spanish?), games, photo galleries, the two reunion shows (and the mini-reunion on the Today Show AND the Rosie O'Donnald Show reunion), ET clips (Considering they're both owned by Paramount how much could cross-licensing cost?), Featurettes and extended scenes (I distinctly recall the cast saying they complained about what ended up being left on the cutting room floor).
/tl;dr. I hope everyone's enjoying their copies!
