Summer Rain

Construction cranes trace the sky
You’re gone for two weeks
Is it still raining?

(Yes)

It is but you’re dearly departed
Opposition contradiction
Sheets of rain nourish me

(Rain)

I’ve got four bullets in one hand
And an empty shell in the other
Five fingers on one hand
But only a soul in the other

(Escaping)

I am a stranger in a strange land
Far from the comforts of the sea
Amid molecules of water that fall
And solid steel that rising to meet them
I am a stranger in a strange land

I have no eyes to see with but those
That I open and close to the skies
I have no ears to here with but those
That whisper through electrical impulses

The rain hits the pavement hard
And loses its breath - oxygen
Hydrogen ignites in a fiery state
And I creep closer to take a look

I could keep my distance but I don’t
We speed forward
I could keep my distance, and I do
Summer is here

There are no troubles when it rains in summer
The machines tremble for fear of rust
But it serves as light refreshment for me
Summer is here, and you’re gone.

In Our Eyes

The image I’ll always remember -
You in the corner of my eye
Crawling out from the folds
Of my eyelids

You walked across that white space
Between my iris and your eyes
Rapidly approaching me - I cast a glance
Sideways and there you were, radiant

It’s an image I’ve carried tucked inside
A faded, crumpled buss pass from last year
A reminder of a night and of a morning
When there was nothing but our eyes
On each other

The image I’ll always remember -
You in the corner of my eye
Crawling out from the folds
Of my eyelids

Walking in front of me
Arms flew and there was no air
Between the bodies of mass
In our eyes

No you
No me
Us
In our eyes
