Day 156, March 14, 2009  day 5

Today was a day that I had planned in my mind to be relaxing and just sort of catching up to myself after those few days of travel with a lot of train travel, which I think is like any other sort of far reaching travel, it just takes it out of you.  The big thing on my plate for the day which I had been planning for a while was to see Watchmen.  I actually read the book over here right before I found out they were making a movie.  I saw it in a Barnes and Noble one day and thought, “I’ve got some time to read this now,” so I picked it up and loved it.  So I was for sure going to see that but otherwise the day was open.  I also learned the night before that Man U and Liverpool were playing their giant EPL match on tv and I figured since Watchmen wasn’t on until later and this match was the early kickoff at noon, I’d go find a pub and watch which was exactly what I did.  It was so fun to see this very important game so early in the morning with all these other people in this pub.  It was also interesting to see all these people drinking so early in the morning, I mean I guess it’s not that early but still.  I was on coke until right before the end of the match.  Maybe the best part of the entire experience was that the match didn’t disappoint and was really entertaining.  Not to mention the fact that Liverpool thumping Man U means that the title race is somewhat back on.  So that was a great start to the day too.  I also failed to mention the fact that I started my day out with a nice doner kebab, god I’m going to miss the hell out of those things.

After that I went to see Watchmen.  I’ve put down my thoughts on this movie in a different forum and I don’t think I’ll go too far into detail about what I thought, but overall I thought it was really pretty good.  It’s hard to live up to a novel that is really that good, but I thought as a whole the team that made the movie did a good job.  The music was my biggest problem and I still can’t figure out how a well run movie making group that did so well on nearly every other aspect could let something so huge get through the cracks and really ruin a few scenes.  I still say though, the story of the book really is the best part of the movie, it’s just got so many cool aspects to it and makes the movie good, they just needed to make sure they were staying true enough to the novel and they did fine.  After that was all over it was getting pretty late.  I knew I wanted to grab some grub somewhere in Henley but I wasn’t sure where I was going to go.  I knew I was going to an Italian place on Monday so I wanted to save that option.  Besides that though there isn’t a ton of stuff in Henley that really turns me on.  They’ve got a couple French restaurants, no thanks.  Spanish Tapas is good, but I always feel like that food is so much better with a few people rather than just little old me.  So I finally decided on one of the curry places in town.  The one I had been to right in the first month of me being here is ALWAYS empty every time  I go by it which deters me, but for once it had a couple people in it.  I don’t understand why this place isn’t packed all the time.  The curry is frickin awesome and the Indian dudes that run it are always buzzing around to make sure you’re alright.  I had a dish that I’d never had before but now I can’t remember what it’s called.  I know that it’s a lot like a Misala but had more coconut and a few other flavors to it, overall though it was fantastic.  It was nice to have curry again too, it’s been a little while which is sorta bad considering I should be getting my fill over here, but I find it hard to eat in a place when it’s JUST you.  I hate that.

After that it was pretty much time to hit the road back to the Whitehart and watch Match of the Day.   I did call Matt before I left which was really nice.  We caught up on all the stuff like my trip and his computer problems.  Damn it I miss that kid.  It’s like every time I call him and I’m not really sure what I’m gonna talk about we end up talking for an hour or something.  I guess that’s to be expected but I seriously can’t WAIT until he gets here.  It also makes me really think about living near him long term.  I think there’s some things I need to do without him before I get to the point where I can call some shots and just live near him whether it’s in Minne or wherever, but I feel I need him close by no matter the difficulty.  Anyway, watched some tele for the rest of the night and continued to work on the travel journal and whatnot, that really takes some time as well as putting all those pictures up on facebook, not to mention doing all the captions which I’ve still not even started on yet.  But yah, it was a perfect day to be back.  Nice and relaxing but I got a few things I wanted to get done, done and also had some really great times watching movies and TV, for me it was a perfect day in Henley.  Until next time.
