http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6722457.stm The story above sets out how immigrants who want to be a British citizen will have to accrue points in a system similar to that in Austrailia. I'd love to know if my running the gun club would bolster or decrease my points. After all, it's upholding the community, getting involved, and certainly is volunteering!!! Also, our founding memeber was in the Second World War, at Dunkirk, and a POW for much of it. I truly respect the effort and lives given by people - no matter what nationality - that fought in the war. It was more than commendable.
So. Does the fact that I've been here nearly 6 years, live here, work here, have friends/associates/a community here make me further up the scale? Do I get to be on the scale? Is it a sliding scale?
I just wonder... is this really a good idea, especially when it's outlined in ephemeral terms like 'Britishness' which means something different to everyone, depending on who you speak to and where. *sigh* I do wonder what the future will bring.
