The night of Wells' and Zuko's arrival in London passed uneventfully, for a night that involved a claustrophobic werewolf forced to stay in his own basement. Very little property damage was involved; that qualifies. Come the morning, though, Wells and his wife said their good-byes- the hardest thing he'd ever had to do, for all that they agreed to meet again in a few months' time, at a hotel Wells knew in Birmingham. That would be enough time to start his investigation, to begin the work of bringing down the men who sent his squad to die.
Of course, Wells reckoned at the time of the arrangement that he'd be able to get back to Milliways, fetch Mr. Universe, and split open the Ministry of Defence's computers long before then. He was wrong. They've made it across southern England and over the mountains into northern Wales, where Ryan was last stationed before the Scottish disaster, and Wells has tried to open a door to the Bar every day of their journey. It's never worked, not even for an instant. If it weren't for Zuko's presence, and for the guns and armour Wells still carries in disguised cases, he'd almost think the Bar had been nothing but a werewolf's fevered dream.
That doesn't give him leave to give up the fight, though. He just has to rearrange his plans, that's all. Leave the hacker out of it, and start digging his own tunnels, as it were. Thus he made it to Wales, and found the beginnings of the information he sought- Ryan's dirty work hadn't been entirely covered up. There were still paper trails that had been missed, and names- full names- including Megan's. Most of the information had been destroyed, though, and in the process of confirming that fact Wells had tripped some alarm somewhere. He'd fled in time and they'd got away, but now... now, someone knew there was someone out there interested in the werewolf incident beyond mere 'oo, there's a cover-up, isn't there'. There would be searchers. There would be investigators.
There would be no peace until the culprit was found, and thus, Wells and Zuko were targets.
