Onew’s eyes widen in an instant as he checks the calendar. It’s August already and yet he hasn’t prepared any present for Key’s birthday next month. Sure he still has plenty of time about what to buy, but he’s one forgetful person. He’s afraid he’d forget to prepare the present and end up disappointing Key, one of things he prefers not to do.
And he suddenly becomes depressed. He thinks of Key’s favorite color, Key’s favorite food, Key’s favorite cartoon character, and even Key’s favorite perfume, but still hasn’t come to a conclusion of what he should buy. He takes a glance at Key’s diary that’s been laid carelessly on the top of the computer desk, thinking whether he should take a peek or not. He finally decides not to, though.
Plushies come across his mind, a big white bunny plushie to be exact. But then he remembers how Key has received many of them last year. Onew wants to be special, he wants to be different from everyone else in Key’s eyes. So he crosses plushies out of the list. Biting his lower lip, Onew keeps thinking of what he should give as Key’s birthday present.
He buries his face into his pillow when Jonghyun walks into the room. The younger man blinks as he sees his very depressed looking friend looks very depressed.
“Why do you look like you have no life?” Jonghyun asks curiously as he sits on the edge of their leader’s bed.
“Shut up,” Onew mumbles, “I’m just thinking.”
“Yeah. I know, you must be thinking of the joy of being burnt in hell.”
“Fuck you.”
“You don’t fuck me, hyung. Key’ll be mad if he finds you fucking me, ” Jonghyun grins.
“Whatever. Just get out already.”
“Not until you tell me what’s wrong.”
Onew finally gets up from his position earlier. Hugging his pillow tightly, he begins to spill what has been bugging his mind lately.

Key blinks as he sees Jonghyun coming out of their room with this very big grin decorating his face. What happened? It’s not rare to find Jonghyun grinning like that, but still, Key is a very curious one.
“What’s with the happy face?”
“Nothing. Just your boyfriend in there being a failure and I’m happy to see him fail.”
One smack on the head and one slap on the cheek from the younger one are enough to make Jonghyun’s grin turns into a very cute pout. But before the said man can protest, Key’s sharp words quickly make him shut his mouth again. (“Don’t you dare to call him fail again or I’ll make your attempt to seduce Minho fails.”)

“Onew hyung?” Key slowly peeks into their room.
Onew takes a glance at the newcomer in the room before he smiles and pats the spot on the bed next to him, signaling Key to sit there.
Key obeys the request, quickly places himself next to his boyfriend. Leaning closer, he softly asks, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s no-“
“Don’t say ‘nothing’, I know something’s wrong,” Key pouts.
Onew chuckles, “Really, it’s nothing. I’m just confused about what to give for your birthday.”
“It’s like, next month?”
“Yeah, but I want to give something special, so I need to think about it from now.”
“I don’t need special presents, Onew baby,” Key smiles softly, “Besides, you remember about my birthday in such an early time is already a special gift.”
“But-“
“No but’s.”
“Key-“
“Onew.”
“…”
“Love you, too.”
They end up doing romantic things only them and God know.
