This summer, my roommate *Danielle* mysteriously cancelled her housing assignment and we were assigned a new fourth roommate. I think I've already written about this. The new girl is from France, so I'm actually excited to meet her. But at the same time, we're all kind of worried about Danielle, wondering what's going on.
So for the past few weeks, I've been calling/e-mailing/IMing her periodically trying to find out if she's okay. No response. About a week ago, she started immediately signing off when I would sign on. At first it seemed like it might just be a coincidence, but now it's happened at least five or six times. Still no responses to my IMs.
Now I'm conflicted. I started by feeling sympathy (because something big is obviously happening and she doesn't want to talk about it) but now I'm just feeling irritated. It seems like in any situation, if she's regularly going online, she could find the consideration to say to us, "Look guys, I don't want to talk about it, but thanks for your concern," even if it's just written to our away messages or something. I respect her privacy, but can I PLEASE have some kind of acknowledgment here that she is, in fact, okay????
At what point is it okay to stop feeling sympathetic and start feeling mad?
My dad called today. For about two and a half seconds I thought we might have a conversation. Don't hold your breath.
