Soldiers Close to My Heart: My early respect for the men and women in our military came from my grandfather whom was a soldier overseas during World War II. He was an ordinary man . . . in fact, he had more faults than most -- an affinity for alcohol, mainly -- and when you realize that the people fighting for our freedom are ordinary men and women, it gives you a really uplifting feeling. Both of my uncles were involved in the military -- National Guard for both of them -- and moved on to have practical jobs and good families. Currently a cousin of mine -- Kurt -- is just getting out of training for the Marines and is currently busy doing engineering work -- building bridges, specfically, I believe.
Why I Joined: As I've said, I know that these soldiers are just normal people doing extraordinary work . . . and most of the people in this community are involved in the ordinary aspect of their lives. Even though I don't have anyone so close as a nuclear family member or boyfriend/husband serving, I want to offer support in any way that I can to those who do.
I look forward to getting to know all of you!
