Mail him a phone card. I know my husband got to call home - without a phone card - while he was at USMC boot, but I dunno if it's different for others.

my husband is also in marine boot camp. I was told i wouldn't get a phone call, so i was shocked to hear that he had gotten a call the first week!
It was nice to hear he was doing well, but i would have liked to hear it myself.

thanks for the advice, i wasn't sure if i could or not!

You definitely can. Phone calls are used as a reward for good behavior in boot camp. My husband only got to call me once when he was in boot camp (Navy) because of a few bad apples in his division spoiling it for the rest of them. I know Costco and Sam's have great deals on domestic calling cards.

I've got one already, we bought for him to take, but his recruiter told him not to bring it

When my airman was away at training I just got a Speedy PIN calling card and loaded time up through the internet. There wasn't even a physical card IIRC just a number to call and a PIN to put in. It worked great for us but this was not basic but advance tech school so more liberty for calls etc.

I'm gonna try and send him one, and if he can't have it, i'll send him the information (the 800 number and the pin) or try that Speedy PIN thing (i have heard or it)

Thanks guys for all of your advice! =D

I think his recruiter deserves a good beating... I sent my hubby to Navy boot camp with a calling card, but I guess our recruiter was nice enough to tell us to make sure we had one for him before he left. Although, while he was there he ran out of minutes, and was able to buy a new calling card at the Navy Exchange...

Send him a calling card (make sure that it gets activated correctly) and then you'll live with your cell phone as an attachment to your body :) I hope you get things figured out and get another phone call soon!

yeah, i'm not very happy with them. I understand you're not supposed to really believe everything they say, But he told me that i would most likely not recieve a phone call, well i go in today to get some paperwork (making me a dependet on the account blah blah) and he asked if i got a call from my husband, because they always make sure to give them one phone call after 48 hours. (it's a long story, but i was at work, he had to call collect and all i had was my cell, so i missed the call, he had to call his sister.)
i wasn't very happy to say the least.

I've already started to bring my cell everywhere now! (even when i shower, its in the room. lol)

Thanks!

Mail him a calling card. I got calls from my husband even though i was told not to expect any. especially when he was closer to getting it over with i got calls almost every day. The first two weeks he was there i didnt get any calls, and then i came home to a message on my answering machine with his address to write. Just keep in touch through letters and he'll call you whenever he can I'm sure.
