kudos

so. several things have happened to me this week, that made me want to give props to all of you military family members and SO's. number one, i spent three days with a friend whose (navy) husband is in the middle east. they have a wonderful 15 month old daughter, and she is pregnant with their son. he has missed most of the pregnancy and won't be home until fall, when his son will already be a few months old. i watched her cope with a lively toddler, her husband's family, other friends, her new housing, and her pregnancy with complete awe! she's my freaking hero! living as a single mom, waiting by the phone for those few minutes (almost) daily when her hubby could call...

number two is that i'm spending a week with my (navy) brother and his (navy) roommates. it's great to see these guys support each other in that macho way guys do: a space to crash, all the gossip from the ship, covering for someone with a hangover... my brother will soon be heading to the persian gulf, and altho we're not doing anything special, just the opportunity to spend time with him is priceless. it's going to make it both harder and easier to say goodbye to him...

third is the fact that this little jaunt has been the most time i've ever spent away from my husband since we met. it's been weird: wonderful and lonely at the same exact time.

so THANK YOU to all of you who are on the homefront: mailing packages, writing email, raising kids, waiting by the phone, handling the finances... you are heroes to me!
