Name: Amanda
Age: 23
Location: Connecticut
Soldiers name (First only): Bill
Soldiers age: 22
Soldiers branch: United States Navy
How did you meet?: We met at a bar in Hartford.
How long have you been together (known each other)?: Eight months.
What is your relationship with them?: We are boyfriend and girlfriend.
What about your soldier makes your heart go pitter patter? (if you are together): All the silly little things - like when he kisses my nose or brushes my hair.
Is your soldier currently deployed?(Just a yes or no): Yes
Is there anything you would like to share about your experience, things you've learned, or any questions you have?: I knew deployment would be difficult, his being on a submarine makes communication even more frustrating than usual.  E-mail is intermittent and inconsistent and he can only call when he's in port, which isn't often.  I never thought that I would so love just hearing the sound of his voice.  We haven't known each other for all that long, and when we made the difficult decision to stay together through deployment, we actually got a lot of negative feedback from friends and people we care about.  It's so much harder to get through this and stay together when a good number of our friends thinks it's a waste of time or a bad idea or that we simply won't last.  I'm finishing up my last year of college, and he's going to be transferred to the other side of the country when deployment is over...this is one of the most difficult things that I've ever experienced in my life, and I've dated men in the military before, but it somehow feels different this time.  I want this to work, more than I've ever wanted anything, and that's why I know it will...but that doesn't change the fact that he's gone, or that I have trouble sleeping without him, or that I go weeks without hearing from him, or that we're missing out on a lot of important moments in each other's lives.
Pictures of you & your Military member?: n/a
