Did you know?

Nearly one million Americans are now living with HIV and Los Angeles has the second highest number of people living with AIDS in the nation. The money we raise together with the AIDS Project Los Angeles to continue to provide food banks, transportation, home health care and other vital AIDS services - to keep people alive until there's a cure.

With that in mind I share this request from my friend and actor Billy Lush (The Black Donnellys, Generation Kill)

Hey everyone,

I am extremely excited to say that on October 4th, I begin training for the 24th Los Angeles Marathon being held on February 16th, 2009! In the next 5 months I will be logging over 500 miles. I have never run a marathon and I definitely have my work cut out for myself but I am going to need your help too. In exchange for the amazing training I will be receiving over the next 5 months I have to raise $1,600. The good thing is that all of that money goes to a great cause.

The money I raise will benefit Whitman-Walker Clinic, the largest provider of HIV/AIDS services in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Their Clinic provides direct medical care, food, housing and other really important AIDS services -- to help keep people alive until there's a cure.

If we break it down, $1600 isn't that much. If I get 160 people to donate just $10 I will meet my goal! Easy right? Well unfortunately, I don't know 160 people. But I think I may know close to 80. So, if I could get 80 people to donate at least $20, we'll get that $1600 to the Whitman-Walker Clinic. I'm really good at math. I know times are tough across America, but I'm hoping $20 for a a life saving cause is not too much to ask.. Also, any donation that is not cash is 100% tax deductible.
All told, you will be helping people with HIV/AIDS who really need help, you will be helping me achieve a significant goal and you will also be helping yourself by receiving a nice deduction from the US government. With so many reasons to contribute, it's a no-brainer. I thank you all in advance and if you can't donate, then think about coming out and cheering me on February 16th, when I make my own history!

Thank you friends, for your time and your generosity.

Sincerely,
Billy Lush
