Bored. That's Good.

Being bored on a Friday night means I'm not stressed out, overwhelmed & paralyzed.  Things are definitely better than they were about a month ago.

Tomorrow is going to be one of "those" Saturdays: Up ridiculously early, on the road, running errands, a list a mile long, mostly preparing for Sunday, which is slated to be another full one.

The idea doesn't daunt me at the moment, whereas just a few weeks ago it would have made me nauseated.  Looks like I'm back to the 2007 version of me.

I've edited this entry 3x now -- guess it's gonna be one of those "ramblers."

Work went well this week; it really hasn't been bad at all  for quite some time.  I'm not even afraid of "jinxing myself" by writing that.  I e-mailed the boss this morning and told her I had some extra time saved up (taking it over 40 hours for the week) and asked if I could use a bit of it for a lunch with friends.  Usually I go home because the house is less than 2 miles from the office, but a group of local folks I know like to congregate for lunch once a month.  I miss these more often than not because of the time involved, but decided to ask for it.  Ms. Boss said something like "Okay but don't tell anyone I'm letting you do this because it could look like favoritism."  As it turned out, I only used 9 extra minutes and I had something like 20.  This time last year she was really riding me because I needed to take time here and there mainly for my son.  My attendance (including punctuality) has improved vastly, so there's no need to feel guilty taking a few extra minutes for lunch once in awhile.

To keep up with the work, I compile to-do lists every couple of weeks, based on the software we use, and am finding that the lists get smaller every time.  I'm simply keeping up better, staying on top of things.  It feels good to be able to document this.  I'm hoping there might be another big bonus next Christmas.  People have said our department, i.e. the function we perform, should not be necessary in a company like ours, but I just don't see how that could be possible.  As long as customers continue to behave the way many of ours do, there will always be a need for us.  I think back to the way things were when I came on board just under 2 years ago.  We had issues stretching back to 2004 -- I think we only got 2005 out of the way in the last quarter of last year.  How much better to see that 2006 became history last month, and 2007 is shrinking fast.  I predict it will be completely gone by August.  Other than Ms. Boss, it's just FWN and me.  We have a good team.  It's a good gig.
