Edge of the Lake, Early Afternoon Sunday

It was deathly quiet here. The water was still, and there was but one sign of anything amiss.

That sign was the glimpses of a body, floating in the shallows of the water.

Bellatrix had been looking on the North side of town when she heard the bells. Her heart jumped, Had they found her alright?

Bellatrix moved towards the sound of the bells and then saw the crowds. Pushing her way through them she saw the edge of the lake.

Something was wrong, there should be cheers welcoming Thelma back.

Her eyes drew to the ground, she saw her laying there, a jacket over her face.

"Thelma..." Bellatrix' hand flew to her mouth, she couldn't move, her eyes were rooted to the spot.

Nate had been with Bellatrix's group, and had followed her. He knew that the girl was dead, long before he saw her. If just felt like there was death here.

"Damn shame," he said, simply. He went to try and place a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

Bellatrix looked up at him. "She was my friend." She said in a soft whisper.

"She's in a better place," Nate said. "Trust me. I know it sounds like a dumb cliche. But I got experience."

Bellatrix swallowed hard, she remembered her converstaion with Mr. James from the day before. Death was not beautiful.

"It's not an end." She whispered, "It's just the begining to the next order of things."

"Is that the truth or just something they say at funerals for the sake of the living?"

"It's the truth," Nate said. "But it doesn't make the loss any less tragic for those still alive."

"Where does she go now?" Bellatrix asked her eyes were rooted back onto Thelma's body.

"Do the details matter?" Nate said. "She'll be safe."

[truest_black]

"They matter." Bellatrix almost hissed, "to me."

[pryor_child]

"Should I lie and say heaven?" Nate said. "She'll go wherever she needs to go. What her world dictates, what this world will allow, things will work out. She's at peace."

"Who decides, where she's needed?" In this moment Bellatrix doubted any power on earth or beyond wanted Thelma more than the people who cared for her.

"She does," Nate said. "She does."

[truest_black]

"Then she can come back here?"

[pryor_child]

"I'm living proof that the dead can return," Nate said. "It's possible. But... you can't bank on that. She's gone, kid. I'm sorry."

Bellatrix stared up at him and then back down towards Thelma. "She is." Bellatrix said sadly. She willed herself to turn away from the sight, there was nothing she could do now.

"Is it really peaceful where she's gone?" Bellatrix said with her back to the lake. "You're not just saying that she's at peace, you really know she is?"

Nate nodded, his face the picture of conviction.
